The way my tractor works because it is a hydro, you can get out of the seat with the tractor running as long as you are not pushing the foot pedal. There must be a switch located on the forward foot pedal that shuts down the tractor when it is pushed and there is no one in the seat. The way I know this is that the way I have to get the tractor restarted is to wiggle the foot pedal.

Has anyone had any problems with their 4200 Hydro jerking when going down a hill? I can depress the hydro pedal or even put on the cruise and try to go down a hill and it jerks like the hydro is grabbing then releasing?

I have a 4200 Hydro and there seems to be an excessive ringing/clanking noise coming from the rearend when at low rpm's or backing up. I have already had the new thrust washer installed. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this normal?

I live in Lincoln and have a 2 year old 4200 Hydro with 4wd that I may be interested in getting rid of depending on what they are worth. It has around 170hrs, a 72" belly mower, 420 loader and turf tires. The tractor has always been kept in the garage and is in excellent shape. I have had all of the warranty work done on the tractor including the new front axle and the new anti--fog dash. I really wasn't looking to get rid of it but I would be definately interested. I have a JD4200 with a 420 Loader and a 72" belly mower. The problem I have is that the front release arm for the belly mower is in conflict with the grill guard that was installed with the loader. The only way I could get the belly mower off was to either remove the grill guard or bend the lever so that it will clear the guard. Does anyone else have this setup? If so what did you do to remedy the problem? Or was my equipment installed incorrectly by the dealer?

I had the same problem. All I did was to rotate the 90 degree fittings 180 degrees so that they faced upwards and then strapped the four hoses with a heavy duty wire tie to a hole towards the top of the loader bracket. I haven't had any problems since!

Just got my 4200 back from the dealer today with the new front axle. I must say it makes a huge difference. I immediately went out and mowed to try it out and absolutely not tearing of the turn no matter how hard I steer. My old axle used to leave black marks on the pavement even with moderate turns and with the new axle , nothing! The only thing I noticed about the new axle is that it looks a little clunky and where the tie rod attaches to the tire appears to be a little close to where it could rub the tire if the tire is a little low on pressure. Other than that it is great!

Just heard from my dealer about my scuffing problem. He said that John Deere will be sending him a new front axle for my 4200. I sure hope this takes care of the problem. I do not know if JD will notify 4000 owners of this fix or if the squeeky wheel gets the oil. I have been calling my dealer every couple of weeks since I first heard of a possible fix on this board! I have turf tires, as far as how fast I am moving I really could not tell you. All I can say is that I was in "B" range and at "mowing speed." I have pretty much come to the realization that I can only turn the tractor half as sharp as it is capable of when mowing (Which stinks because one of the reasons I bought the mower was for its sharp turning radius!) I am thinking that whether I truely have a "scuffing" problem or not I am going to try and get the new front axle installed. I will try and call my dealer tommorrow and see what they have to say!

I have a 4200 and the 90's were pointed down. I did exactly like someone else mentioned and turned the 90's up and took out the slack by reconnecting the cables to the loader and it has worked great since.
